There are three types of creatues living in Nio - Geister, Fantasmas and Mixlings
Deities are a kind of Geist (pl: Geister), one that we humans would call a positive soul. Though that term has less to do with their natural inclination to the good or bad, it means that they are grow and thrive by giving away energy.
They are born from wishes, hopes, dreams, thoughts, beliefs. Nio is in mysterious ways connected to the human world, and everytime a human wishes for something, or puts lots of belief into or in something, a little deity is born.Only when that wish, belief or dream is forstered, a deity grows, and will slowly gain their own kind of soul and personality.
Their counterpart are the Fantasmas, also called demons, or on. Sometimes, a fantasma and a deity might form a deep emotional connection, similar to love, friendship or even hate. If that happens, and their souls are in sync, an precious stone is formed, also called an egg. This is how the Mixlings are created, the most common one are Foolings, and some of you might know the somewhat rarer Tanoolings or Kitsoolings.

Minor, Major, Cardinal Deities
Deites, while being powerful creatures in general, are not as overpowered as you might think at first. They are still bound by the rules of the world they live in, and in the body they inhabit. Their bodies are mostly made out of pure energy, and depending on their age, strength and
Minor deities are the ones that you can create at any time. Their powers are limited, not the strongest but still good enough to protect them from the dangers that lurk in the dark. A minor deity can host one (1) Guardian, may they be a Fantasma or Mixling, at the time, and usually have a very small shrine next to the place/object they are bound to.
A minor deity would be for example, a deity of a single tree.
Major deities are the next step, those are more powerful and usually govern over a bigger set of lang, or broader meaning of things. Major deities usually have temples, made out of a single building, similar to what the bigger shrines in our East Asia might look like. Some deities also like to inhabit western-similar houses or caves, so don't be limited by what you have seen in our media. Inside that shrine lies the deities hart - the object, with which they first bonded in their minor stage.
A Major deity would govern over a forest, for example.
Cardinal deities are also called royal deities. Those are the big guys, the ones that have the biggest influence in Nio, and by far the biggest strength. Those are, in terms of the arpg, NPCs, meaning as of now, those cannot be obtained as playable characters.
Most of them have their temples in larger cities. Oftentimes the deity will act as a patronus or guardian of the city. Cardinals usually have a larger amount of guardians under their wings, depending on their ranking. With NPCs, it is possible to pledge your loyalty to that deity, though that depends on how willing the deity is to take in new guardians.

Anatomy
When creating your deity, you are practically unlimited in the way of designing them. Below you will see some template-like guidelines of the anatomy. If you then wish to modify it - giving them less eyes, more horns, more legs, smoke or spikes, smiles or scars - that is all up to you. You also do not have to own a Fooling, to create a deity. And in general, those will be not for sale.
Soul Form
The soul form is the one a deity takes on the very first time, they materialize into the world. It can be animal shaped, object shaped, plant shaped. Or a mixmatch. The form is very unique to the deity and is often connected to the wish/thought they sprouted from.
A minor deity of a single tree might be have, for example, the body of a squirrel with overgrowing foliage down its back.
This form is compact and does not excess too many blessings. Major deities usually only rest in that form if they are sick, or wounded.

Legendary / Draconis Form
This form is mostly inhabited by major deities, and their preferred form. It's where their energies are at most relaxed and in balance. At the same time, since that form gives off a stronger amount of energy (blessings), they need to be guarded by at least two guardians.
Animus & Human Forms
Animus forms are usually similar to the deity's soul form. The colors/patterns are similar, and while the species may change (let's say, from squirrel to tiger), some characteristics might still stay in the tiger form. Since a deity, however, is made out of pure energy that is not really bound by physical form, they may shift, grow, change at will.
The human form is a comfortable form to be in. Hands truly are a blessing, better than paws or claws. Deities like to take human forms, especially if they travel the city. They are, like the soul form, quite compact in regards to the energy excess, so they can use that form to easily hide their powers. It is also said, that some deities can enter other worlds, and since many of them inhabit humans or human-like creatures, it's also a safe choice to travel in.
